Project Brief

With an established following as the online gathering place for digital inkjet designers and print professionals, Dots + Pixels wanted to produce a print piece to demonstrate and showcase what graphic designers and artists can achieve with digital inkjet.

Dots + Pixels wanted the print piece to follow the look and feel of the website, featuring how-to articles to help streamline and enhance the design process, along with tips and tricks designed to spark inspiration and innovation.

Solution

Using grassroots, handmade zines for visual inspiration, we designed a ‘mini mag’ under the thematic umbrella of you did what with inkjet? We specifically wanted to emulate unique typography and the illusion of mixed media — both fixtures in zine culture — to highlight that you really can do anything with digital inkjet.

Large blocks of color and halftones help simulate a screen print look and vibe, and the use of whimsical icons and bold colors aligns with the Dots + Pixels website and The Designer's Desk Pack to ensure consistent branding across each touchpoint.

The dimensions of the mini mag are also  unique. We wanted the piece to be something that could sit on a designer’s desk without being in the way, while substantive enough that graphic designers, artists, and printers would  use it as an engaging, helpful resource.

The combination of size, design, and content gives this mini mag the ability to connect with digital inkjet designers and print professionals in a way that truly packs a punch.
